Copywriter
About Blaze
Blaze is an independent advertising and communications agency in Falmouth, Maine. We work across brand strategy, campaigns, digital media, web, content production, and media buying. Our clients are across a range of industries including transit, financial services, higher education, nonprofits, municipal government, and mission-driven brands.
We are a Certified B Corporation, which means we are measured against an outside standard on how we treat our employees, our community, and the environment. We are also 100% employee owned, so the people doing the work have a stake in the agency's success.
About the role
The Copywriter writes across every channel we work in. In a typical month that includes long form website copy, campaign concepts and headlines, short form copy for Meta and other platforms, organic social, email, video scripts, and print.
The role also involves brand voice work. On some accounts you will help define a brand voice from the beginning, including the strategy behind it and the guidelines that let other people use it. On others you will write inside an established voice that already has clear standards.
You will work closely with our designers, often paired one on one and sometimes as part of a larger team, from early concept through final execution. You will present your work and the thinking behind it to internal teams and to clients.
This is a multi-account role in a fast-paced environment. You will typically have several projects moving at once, with a mix of quick turnarounds and longer assignments that need sustained focus over days or weeks. Workload varies week to week. This role reports to the ACD.
Responsibilities
Write long form and short form copy across web, campaign, social, email, video, and print
Develop brand voice strategy, guidelines, and reference examples for new and existing clients
Write within established brand voice standards on assigned accounts
Contribute campaign concepts and creative ideas, not copy alone
Collaborate with designers throughout concept and execution
Present work and rationale to internal teams and clients
Manage multiple assignments and deadlines across several accounts
Requirements
4 - 7 years of copywriting experience in an agency setting
Writing samples that show range across both long form and short form work
Experience collaborating directly with designers
Experience writing within defined brand voice guidelines
Comfortable with context-switching, working on a variety of projects at once
Strong organizational skills
Preferred qualifications
These are not required. We encourage you to apply if you meet the requirements above, whether or not any of these apply to you.
Experience developing brand voice or brand messaging frameworks
Experience in one or more of our client categories: transit, financial services, higher education, nonprofit, municipal, or B2B
Familiarity with SEO fundamentals and writing for the web
Video or long form content scripting experience
Compensation and details
Full-time, in-person role at our office in Falmouth, Maine.
Benefits: Blaze offers a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, 401(k), health and dental insurance, and more.
